Your First Stay At A Fishing Lodge

Fishing can be so much more fun when you make a vacation out of it. You can arrange for a stay in a fishing lodge, and wake up every morning just minutes from your fishing spot. If this will be your first time staying in a fishing lodge, though, there are a few tips you'll want to follow.

Check what type of fishing is available near the lodge.

You don't want to show up expecting to fly fish, then realize it's mostly sunfish you can catch near the lodge. So, before you book a specific fishing lodge, read some reviews to see what kind of fishing folks are doing near the lodge. If the lodge you're looking at does not seem to be ideally located for the kind of fishing you want to do, then you'll want to find a different lodge. It's easier to pick a different lodge than it is to change all of your fishing plans and techniques last minute.

See whether a guide is available.

Some fishing lodges are just places to stay near popular fishing spots. Other fishing lodges are more all-inclusive. They may have a guide on staff who can take you to local fishing spots, give you advice, and even help you chill and prepare your fish if needed. Sometimes you'll pay extra for the guide to accompany you, and other times it's included in the cost. Check what sort of amenities are available at the lodge before you book it. This way, you will know what kind of trip to expect and how to plan. If you are a beginner angler, then you may want to specifically look for a lodge where there's a guide available.

Check how far the lodge is from the fishing spots.

Some lodges are literally on the water. Other lodges may be a 10 or 15-minute drive from the local fishing spots. There's no right or wrong choice here, but you do want to know what to expect. Staying on the water is a different experience from getting up each morning and driving to a lake. But you will generally pay more to stay on the water, so you need to take costs into account.

Staying at a fishing lodge is such a great way to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Follow the advice above as you plan, and remember to enjoy yourself along the way.
